How to get it

Work through the Sawmill, Mason, Smelter and Blacksmith upgrades, build the workshops and connect their tunnels. Smelt copper into bars, then forge the first pickaxe. That is the sequence given by the English Demo tutorial. 13 Oct first-pickaxe tutorial.

  1. Inspect each building upgrade's own requirement in the tree. Recipe descriptions are available there.
  2. Place the four named workshops and give dwarves a carved route to them.
  3. Check the Smelter's copper-bar stage, then the Blacksmith's pickaxe production. Use the recipe inputs shown in your own game.
  4. When the first pickaxe finishes and mines open, continue to expedition preparation.

How to use it

Choose the mine destination and use the pickaxe row's + and − controls to set the party. The tutorial says to forge more pickaxes at the Blacksmith to send more dwarves. Continue to equipment, then pack torches and any other gear. If you change squad size in Demo 0.90, select the gear again. Every mine run starts at floor 1; the pictured Copper Pickaxe's floor-3 field is not a higher starting floor.
