Expeditions handbook
Why mines restart at 1—and how the Demo goes deeper
Every mine expedition starts at floor 1. Left-click to mark the blue arrow when you are ready to leave; once dwarves reach and mine it, they immediately enter the next floor. The recorded 28 October Demo ends after floor 3.
For a mine party with equipment packed.

Steps
Expect the run to begin at floor 1
Bring torches for both the opening floor and the descent; reaching a deeper floor on the previous trip does not skip the route.
Open full-size image ↗Mine preparation lists the starting floor and Demo endpoint. Mark the blue arrow when you are ready to descend
Finish collecting the resources you want on this floor, then left-click the blue downward arrow to mark it. Dwarves can mine the arrow only while it is marked; reaching and mining it takes the party straight to the next floor.
Open full-size image ↗Blue-arrow tutorial: mark it before dwarves can mine it; mining sends the party straight down. Watch light and the current-floor display
Watch remaining torchlight and the current-floor indicator as the party works. Use the displayed floor to check that the descent happened.
Recognize the Demo's third-floor boundary
The pictured Copper Pickaxe shows digging to 3, matching the Demo's endpoint. At that boundary, prepare another run instead of looking for a deeper Demo floor.
Prepare the next run from the beginning
Return to party preparation. Adjust the next loadout through the equipment and upgrades you can make.
What should change
You have identified the current floor, descended using a marked arrow and checked the Demo endpoint.
If it still does not work
If the party does not descend, check that the arrow is marked and reachable. If light ends early, check the packed torches and party carry capacity before the next run.

The floor-1 start and floor-3 endpoint are Demo limits shown in EironMaidenTV's 28 October recording, along with marked-arrow descent; its exact build is unstated. Demo 0.90 documents the floor indicator.
